Arma game night March 10
« on: March 09, 2010, 01:03:56 am »
20.00 GMT we meet for briefing, often with a NA time reinforcements around 20:00 PST

We are using ACE 2 on our server currently, if you need assistance with the install beyond what is in this thread pm, or holler on TS and we will get you sorted out.

http://forum.simjunkies.org/casualsoldiers/ace-2-install-for-dummies/

Anyone wants to try being team lead? For those who like moving and working in fire teams we always need a few to step up and try to keep communication and movement going. As we have a couple new members, lets do our best to stick with them and make sure they are on the same page as the rest of the team and not just wandering off in a field by themselves somewhere because they missed the 'get in the choppa!' call.  :rotfl:

I just reinstalled ARMA with Steam.  Do I need to install any patches before I put ACE2 into place?

Steam should have auto updated, but patches have nothing to do with ACE. Just fire up the game and make sure it says 1.05xxxxxx b-)

I'm down for this, and, dare I say it, I've been practising, solo-style, on the server. Got all my controls sorted now, using keyboard for foot, and joypad for vehicles, also got flying down to a tee, too. Figured out how to lift with the blackhawk, how to fill ammo boxes, how to deploy them, etc. Also how to wreck repair, and vehicle repair.

Got to grips with some of the more advanced air-to-ground weaponry too. So I'll be providing air-support, on and off.

One thing I found helpful was to bring up both MHQ's, and put them on opposite sides of the target village, kinda confused the AI as to which side I was coming from.

Cool beans! There is of course room for solo style missions and snipers in support of a 'main force'. It takes effort from everyone to work together, in that we need people to step up and take the lead, and people willing to work with that person during the mission. We're not strict, but basic things such as

"Ok, we are setting down at LZ, MHQ goes here, let approach through this tree line and push for that target first"

"Contact Patrol, 5 men, bearing 125" - This lets everyone know where the threat is, we get multiple eyes and guns on, then open fire together.

"Nice work guys, lets secure the radio tower while John plants the charges"

Just little bits of communication to keep everyone working in a team rather than just individuals who happen to be within 100m of each other. That is how I like to play anyhow, it may not suit all.  :)

Air support is essential with limited number of soldiers. Personally I like to have some type of coordination with ground units when flying support, not just bombardment of the AO (though that is fun sometimes!), but that is just me and is not a rule in Casual Soldiers. One thing I would very much like to see with air support is know where your friendlies are, notify them of your pending attack run and make all attacks perpendicular to friendly forces. This ensures that anything that goes short or long has minimal chance of friendly casualties. Air support with Laser bombs (GBU-12) is especially handy for taking out those pesky D30 emplacements, a sniper/spotter is very valuable for doing this while the main force is setting up.

It's a great feeling when you are pinned down by something, about to meet your maker and you hear over the radio "Copy Alpha, commencing gun run - target T90", hearing the lord undo his zipper and seeing a burning wreck where once there was impending doom.

Where is everyone?  Did I miss it all?

I was there from 8GMT with, Jarkko, Jim, Pete, Ivan, Gardo & Mac.

I then popped back on about 2am to see if you stateside boys were on and it was dead.

Probably because we were all on last night (Tuesday) as well.

If you ever fancy a little run out just tap me up on SKYPE
